Tropical Veracruz Family Adventure Vacatio

Day 1: Arrival in the city of Veracruz
Your bilingual trip guide will be waiting for you upon your arrival at the Veracruz Airport. Your family will overnight in a hotel in the city of Veracruz. If time permits, your guide will take you on a tour to see some of the sights of this historic port city.

Day 2: See the Waterfall used in the movie, Apocalypto / Lake Boat Ride
After breakfast, you will journey to the southern part of the state to the tropical lakeside town of Catemaco. On your way, you will stop to see the massive waterfall used in the movie, Apocalypto. It is impossible to get real close without getting sprayed. Think of it as the "Niagara Falls" of Veracruz. Continuing on to Catemaco, you will check in at a hotel very close to the lake. In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to explore Lake Catemaco by boat and to see monkeys that live on the island lakes. The evening is free to relax and explore the town. (B,L,D)

Day 3: Scenic Trip up into the Tropical Hillside / Jungle Hike / Swim under Tropical Waterfalls
This morning your family will enjoy the green lush tropical scenery as you travel partway around the lake and then up a rugged back road into the dormant volcanic hillside to a small village hidden in the jungle. A native from this village will lead everyone on a walking tour through the forest to point out and explain about the various plant and trees you will see along your hike. Afterwards, you will travel a short distance to explore some beautiful waterfalls. There, you and your kids will have the opportunity to swim and play in the crystal clear pools found below the different falls. On a hot tropical day, this is definitely the place to be. Later, you will return to Catemaco and your hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Gulf of México Shoreline / Ocean Boat Ride / Beach Time
Your Veracruz adventure continues as you travel to the Gulf of México where your family will explore some of the tiny coastal villages and hang out on the semi-secluded beaches under the tropical sun. Here you can truly relax at one of the small palapa-style restaurants, swim, and body surf in the ocean at your leisure. The area for swimming is kid-friendly as the water stays shallow for quite some distance. A fun ocean boat ride is also on the agenda today to see a huge cave carved by the waves and to take in the very scenic coastline. Your kids will also have the opportunity to marvel at seeing an island populated by hundreds of tropical birds. Optional day activities may include a horseback ride to some small waterfalls nearby and a banana boat ride in the ocean. After a day of beach fun, your family will travel a few hours north to another small coastal town called, Chachalacas where you will overnight in a local family-owned hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Whitewater River Rafting / Rappelling / Zipline Ride over a River
Get ready for another day of outdoor adventures! The state of Veracruz is known as the "Whitewater River Rafting Capital" of México. The steamy tropical riverside town of Jalcomulco will be your home base for a day of exciting class 2 & 3 whitewater river rafting. You and your children will also get to experience the thrill of flying high over the river on a zipline ride. Later, you will travel back to your hotel in Chachalacas. (B,L,D)

Day 6: ATV Beach & Sand Dunes Ride / Veracruz City Tour / Farewell Dinner
Can you picture this? You are zooming down long stretches of beach and up and over tall sand dunes on an ATV (4-wheel all terrain vehicle). This will be the start of your last full day of adventures in Veracruz. Your younger children can double up with an adult so everyone can experience the fun of cruising down the beach with the Gulf of México waves lapping up at your tires. Later today, you will check out of the hotel and head into the city of Veracruz for an afternoon of sightseeing and going to the famous Veracruz Aquarium. Your kids will love watching sharks swim right over their head. In the evening, your family will have a farewell dinner at a nice restaurant in the city with your tour guide to celebrate the conclusion of a great trip. Your overnight accommodations will be at one of the hotels in Veracruz. (B,L,D)
