El Tajin Archeological World Heritage Site & the Papantla Voladores

The archeological ruins of El Tajin is a recognized World Heritage Site. The Totonacan people built over 150 structures including 17 balls courts (more than any other Mesoamerican site) and flourished here between 800 and 1150 AD. One of the more famous structures built is called the Pyramid of the Niches. About 50% of the structures have been unearthed and partially or fully restored.

Itinerary:
You will be picked up right at your accommodations or wherever you are staying in the city of Veracruz by one of our local bilingual (English/Spanish) guides. Your group will then travel approximately 4 hours north of the city to the ruins site of El Tajin. Along the way, your guide will point out other interesting geographical features and explain some of the history associated with the areas you are travelling through. With our larger groups, our vans and buses have video monitors where you can watch DVD movies to help pass the time as well.

When you reach the El Tajin ruins site, a bilingual historian will escort your group on a tour of the major structures and answer your questions. The starting point will be at a small museum located at the entrance of the site.

Later, you will have the opportunity to witness the ceremonial flight of the Voladores. Five men (Voladores or fliers) will reenact high above the ground an ancient ritual that was performed by the Totonacs to appease their god of fertility to bless the area with an abundance of food and water. Get your cameras out for this one.

Lunch will be served at a traditional local restaurant. Afterwards, you will start your travels back to the city of Veracruz.

Cancellation Policy:

A full refund will be given if notification is received not later than 8 days prior to the departure time and date.
If you cancel 3-7 days prior to the departure date and time, a refund of 50% of the trip cost will be issued to you.
If you cancel within 3 days of the departure time, no refund will be issued.
