About Us  

Discover Veracruz Tours, LLC is a U.S.-based travel tour company operating out of Bolingbrook, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. Mike Vondruska is the founder and director. He started this tour company because of his love for travel, adventure, and especially for the state of Veracruz in Mexico. Mike has a strong passion for wanting to share this relatively unknown beautiful part of Mexico with others.

Since 1996, Mike Vondruska has been traveling to Mexico to learn Spanish, customs, the geography, and history of Veracruz. He has been documenting his many trips there with video and photographs of the people and all the scenic places from the mountains to the Gulf of Mexico.

About our Professional Guides

Originally from Southern California, our alpine mountain guide, Wade (Christopher) Hurst worked for many years in the western United States as a mountain climbing and river rafting guide. He now runs New World Adventures, a company which leads excursions up to the base camp of Pico de Orizaba, downhill mountain bike rides, and other adventure trips in the higher altitude areas of Veracruz, Mexico. Wade also runs a first-class lodge called Rancho Santa Barbara, which is surrounded by beautiful alpine scenery.
Our local native white water river rafting guides are a group of brothers who operate Aventura Sin Limite (Adventures without Limits). They were all trained and certified at one of the foremost white water river rafting guide schools in Canada. For many years now, they have been successfully leading hundreds of people on fun and exciting white water adventure rafting trips in Veracruz.
Lake Catemaco is huge and probably no one knows that lake better than local resident, Juan Luis Nolasco Azamar (pictured here with his wife, Magdelena). He has been leading tourists on scenic boat trips for more than 15 years. His knowledge of the lake and of the surrounding area is invaluable to our operations here at Discover Veracruz Tours.
Born and raised with the tropical jungles of Veracruz in his backyard and Lake Catemaco in his front yard, Cecilio Baxin Martinez leads our river kayaking trip and sometimes guides our jungle treks. Cecilio is also a well-known expert on the many exotic flowers and plant life found in and around southern Veracruz. Wait until you see his own personal garden!
